Taron Egerton makes his mark in cinema with a spectacular performance in Kingsman: The Secret Service

I cannot believe how late to the party I am with this one. The 2014 action packed masterpiece has easily become one of my favourite movies of all. This is one of those films with something for everyone, whether you’re into award winning fights, stacked casts, proper British comedy or just in love with Taron Egerton, I really think you’ll love this one.

I was not expecting the camera movement and editing to be as amazing as they were at all. The fight sequences are shot amazingly, it feels like you’re playing a video game with the use of POV shots that they’ve gone with as you can see the characters arms around the side of the camera as they’re running or firing guns. George Richmond was the cinematographer on this film, he has been the director of photography and cinematographer on numerous other hits such as the recent Deadpool and Wolverine, Rocketman and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. All of which have great camera work too so it’s no surprise that this movie got the same treatment.

The soundtrack that was picked is top tier. From Dire Straits to Dizee Rascal to Lynyrd Skynyrd this movie has it all, Free Bird will be living rent free in your head for weeks along with the most insane scene to go with it. The whole film is full of fights to remember but levelled nicely with some gentler parts to connect you to the characters, all of which are performed tremendously. This was the first film I’d properly seen Taron Egerton act in (previously seen him in Legend but I hadn’t made the connection until doing research later on) and I am beyond impressed. Egerton won 2 awards for his work on the film and I’m honestly surprised he didn’t win more of the others he was nominated for. Sophie Cookson plays the brave and loyal Roxy who is definitely one my favourite characters in the franchise. I haven’t seen Cookson in any other films but after her brilliant acting in this I would love to see more of her work. Samuel L. Jackson having a lisp is really going to mess with your head and I still don’t fully understand this choice for the character but he performs well through it.

I really encourage you to watch this movie because it is truly brilliant, I think the second film is still good but does not compare to its prior instalment and I am yet to see the 3rd one. Egerton himself has revealed that he is interested in doing a 4th which I would love to see.

Sadly, Kingsman: The Secret Service is leaving Netflix on February 7th so get it watched before then, however it is still available to stream on Disney+.
